Drawings | Kirby Fredendall

These drawings are made with Sennelier pastels on paper, often lakeside on the porch, in direct response to what I’m seeing around me. I’m drawn to the interaction of color and light as it shifts across the landscape—clouds passing, reflections changing, moments of brightness that appear and dissolve.

Rather than describing a specific scene, these works distill particular color moments. They are quick, intuitive responses to light and atmosphere, capturing the emotional register of a place as much as its physical presence.
